Carl Roger Symons, Sr., 85, of Bethlehem, died on Monday, December 14, 2009.
He was born November 25, 1924 in Bethlehem, the son of the late Ralph V. and Catharine Curry Symons.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elza Sarkozi Symons.
He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII.
Carl graduated from Liberty High School and earned a degree in Chemistry from Moravian College.
He retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corp. in 1982 after 36 years of service as a Chemical Engineer but continued his service with Bethlehem Steel as a consultant.
Carl was an active parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church of Bethlehem where he served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Carl will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Elza; daughters, Roberta Barlok of Bethlehem; Rachel Symons of Bethlehem; Rhoda Symons of Crystal Lake, IL and his son Carl Symons, Jr. of Laguna Hills, CA. He is also survived by his sister Jean Resetar of Bethlehem and his brother Jerry Symons of Mesa, AZ as well as his grandchildren, Glenn Barlok and Gina Shaffer Blanchard both of Bethlehem.
Carl was preceded in death by his brother Leonard Symons and his sister Lorraine Tumminello.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering for channel 39, Musikfest and Celtic Classic.
Carl was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards and reading. Carl especially found joy in traveling with his wife. Carl and Elza have visited all 50 states, as well as several other countries and he was particularly fond of Ireland.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Notre Dame Catholic Church 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018
Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lehigh Valley Parkinson's Support Group 1445 Westgate Dr. Bethlehem, PA 18017 and /or Holy Family Manor 1200 Spring St. Bethlehem PA 18018
