Carmelo Alicea

Carmelo Alicea, 94, of Bethlehem, died on Monday, October 14, 2019. He was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico on April 1, 1925; son of the late Flor and Valeriana (Lugo) Alicea. Carmelo was preceded in death by his wife, Engracia (Lugo) Alicea.

Carmelo retired from Larabe Wire Co. (formerly Trio Cable Company) in Brooklyn, NY where he worked on the plant floor as a machinist. He was a parishioner of Holy Infancy Catholic Church. Carmelo was a member of Santo Nombre. He was very proud of the beautiful floral and vegetable garden that he kept. Carmelo always had tomatoes and peaches for those he loved. Family was the most important aspect of Carmelos life. He loved family gatherings, sharing a meal, and slipping money to his grandchildren. He was loved and will be deeply missed.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Carmen R. Alicea; Samuel Alicea, (Shirley); Maggie Lopez (Hector); Carmelo Alicea, Jr. (Wendy); Flor Alicea (Carmen); and William Alicea, all of Bethlehem; sister, Antonia Novales and brother, Flor Alicea both of Indiana; as well as 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Carmelo was preceded in death by his sons, Jose and Alfredo Alicea and grandchildren, Obadiah, Solomon, and Liliana.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 and again on Friday from 8:00-9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Holy Infancy Catholic Church, 312 E. 4th St. Bethlehem, PA 18015. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
