Edward J. Zakszeski, 95, of Lewes, DE and formerly of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. He was born February 17, 1921; the youngest of 10 children born to the late Charles and Mary Zakszeski. Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rose Marie (Kessler) Zakszeski.
Edward worked as a pit craneman for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. prior to being drafted into the Army in 1944. Upon his return from the war, Edward resumed working at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. and retired in 1974 after 33 years of service. He was proud to have served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre. Edward was a recipient of 3 major battle stars, sharpshooter honors and was awarded the Purple Heart after being shot in the line of duty in Germany. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
Edward will be dearly missed by his sons, Edward Zakszeski and his wife, Barbara of Port Orange, FL and Robert Zakszeski and his wife, Connie of Lewes, DE; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and Helen Karp his companion of 12 years.
A visitation will be held at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 with a funeral service to immediately follow in the funeral home at 12 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
