Jose Simoes

Jose Simoes, 92, of Bethlehem Township, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in his home with his family by his side. Born in Riale, Portugal he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (DeAlmeida) Simoes. He was married to Ana (Guerra) Simoes with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage this past December.

Jose arrived in America on March 9, 1960 and became a citizen in 1968. He worked for Bethlehem Steel as a machine operator in the Coke Plant retiring after twenty-six years of service and then worked for Malones Bakery for another six years. Jose was a member of the United Steel Workers Union and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bethlehem Township. He loved to garden, make homemade wine, and tinker and fix broken home items.

Jose will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ana, sons, Manuel Simoes and wife Fran and Paul Simoes and wife Kim, daughter, Gloria wife of Thomas Ferry, sisters, Lucia Sousa and Inez Abrantes, grandchildren, Keith, Brendan, and Scott Ferry, and three great grandchildren, Holden, Madelyn, and Hayden Ferry. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Americo and Juan Simoes.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 6-8 PM. A calling period will be held Wednesday morning at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18020 from 10:15-10:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour.
