    Muriel Snow Benway

    January 18, 1932 - February 12, 2022

Muriel Snow (Knapp) Benway, 90, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on February 12, 2022. Born on January 18, 1932, in Medford, MA., she was the daughter of the late Mildred (Webster) Knapp. She graduated from Worcester High School and a secretarial (business) school in 1949. She was employed briefly as a typist and stenographer prior to her marriage to Charles (Charlie) Benway in 1950, her husband of 62 years. Muriel and Charlie enjoyed 62 years of marriage. They had five children and moved to different parts of the country for work before settling in Bethlehem. Muriel was employed by Bethlehem Area School District and worked at the Liberty High School cafeteria for many years. While her kids were young, Muriel spent most of her time as a homemaker, caring for her children and husband. In her later years, Muriel and Charlie loved to travel, visiting most of the states in the US, enjoying 11 cruises and traveling to the Holy Land. Muriel’s faith was of utmost importance to her life. She taught at vacation bible school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Most recently, Muriel was a member of Grace Church Bethlehem. In addition to her faith and family, Muriel enjoyed many interests. She enjoyed cross-stitching, reading books, baking, and gardening. In her later years, she grew fond of doing word searches, puzzles, scrabble and playing cards and other activities with her many friends, especially her dear friend Ray Dubbs, at the Moravian Senior Center. Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her children, Thomas (Deborah) Benway, Bruce (Cathie) Benway, Janice (Richard) Schultz, Stephen Benway and Donald Benway; daughters-in-law, Karen and Judy; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family takes great comfort in knowing that Muriel is at peace with the Lord and reunited with her husband, mother and sister Alice who also preceded her in death. A celebration of Muriel's life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church, 521 E. Locust St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Grace Church Bethlehem or to St. Luke’s Hospice.
