Robert ?Bob? McLaughlin, 58, of Bath, formerly of Freemansburg, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 in Easton Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Robert and Regina Auer McLaughlin.
Bob and his wife, Susan A. Sablich, celebrated their 37th anniversary this past January.
Bob was the co-owner of Lehigh Valley Business Machines, where he had worked since the 1970?s. He retired last month due to his illness. He had also worked for Day and Zimmerman Security as a guard at Lutron.
Bob was passionate about the Freemansburg Volunteer Fire Co. where he was well known as ?Mac?.
He was active in all phases of the fire company for over 30 years, including fighting fires. He currently holds the position of Assistant Fire Chief, and is a member of the Board of Directors. Over the years he has served as President 11 years, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer. In 2006 he received the annual President?s Award in recognition of his dedication to the fire company.
He had also served as Deputy E.M.A.Director for Freemansburg and was instrumental in the response to Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
He had served for 15 years as a Freemansburg councilman. He had also been a member of the Sewer Authority and the Recreation Authority.
Bob served his country as a member of the Army during the Vietnam era and was a member of the Freemansburg American Legion. He completed his high school education while in the Army after attending Liberty High School.
Along with his wife Susan, he is survived by a daughter Shawn Marie, wife of Thomas A. Remely II of Lower Nazareth, two grandchildren, Kaitlyn & Bryan, and two sisters, Patricia, wife of Robert Williams of Bethlehem and Bonnie, wife of Albert Moyer of Easton. He is also survived by his wife?s mother Alice Garcia of Bethlehem.
Funeral services to celebrate Bob?s life will be at 10:00AM Thursday, May 31 in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem. Friends may call Wednesday from
7:00 -9:00PM in the funeral home and from 9:00 ? 10:00AM on Thursday.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
