Antonio A. Tavares, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on February 8, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on April 24, 1935, in Lisbon, Portugal, he was the son of the late Domingues and Laurinda (Conceicao) Tavares.
Antonio served in the Portuguese Army for two years, stationed at Cavalaria, before embarking on a journey that would take him across continents. After his military service, he worked at an American Paper Company in Portugal and later moved to Brazil, where he owned and operated a food store. Eventually, he immigrated to the United States, where he continued his career at Triboro Electric, eventually retiring from this esteemed company.
Throughout his life, Antonio was known for his remarkable salesmanship and his skills as a handyman. He enjoyed buying and selling electronics at the flea market in Quakertown, where he cherished the connections, he made with the community. An avid lover of the ocean, Antonio was also a great swimmer who found joy and peace in the water. He was a devoted member of Holy Infancy Church in Bethlehem.
Antonio will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Beatriz D. (Mateus) Tavares; four children, Manuel Tavares, Maria Margarita Lopes and her husband, Julio, Jose E. Tavares, and Maria Fatima Kromer and her husband, Robert; four grandchildren, Jacqueline and her husband, Jeff, Adriane and her husband, Eddie Omar, Robert IV and his wife, Amanda, and Melissa; and six great-grandchildren, Robert V, Eddie Alexander, Madeline, Benjamin, Tristan, and Aiyanna.
In addition to his parents, Antonio is preceded in death by his two grandchildren, Alexander N. Lopes and Matthew Anthony Tavares.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10-12:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral. Burial will conclude services at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Holy Infancy Church, 312 E. 4th St., Bethlehem, PA 18015.
