In Loving Memory of Cesar A. Martinez

Cesar A. Martinez, lovingly known to many as "Papo," passed away peacefully at his home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, surrounded by family. Born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, Cesar grew up in the Bronx and went on to marry and raise his family in the Lehigh Valley. His life was defined by resilience, laughter and love.

Married for nearly 55 years, Cesar was the beloved husband of Aida (Barcelo) Martinez, and the proud father of three daughters - Melissa Deardorff and her husband Mike, Aileen Carper and her husband Will, and Cathy Helms and her husband Jared. He was also a cherished grandfather to six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Cesar is also survived by sister Carmen "Mita" Camacho; he was predeceased by his brother, Ivan Martinez.

A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, Cesar was endlessly curious and loved music, basketball, and computers, often sharing that curiosity with his family.

Above all, Cesar will be remembered for his infectious joy. He was the life of every gathering, quick with a joke, a smile, and always ready to dance. He loved salsa and merengue, played the guitar beautifully, and could light up a room with his laughter. His humor and warmth drew people in, and his family was his greatest pride and joy. Whether playing with his grandchildren, sharing stories, or simply making someone laugh, Cesar had a gift for making others feel loved and happy.

Even through his illness, Cesar kept his trademark positivity and humor, showing courage, grace, and gratitude in every moment. His strength and courage will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Cesar's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him...in every laugh, every dance, and every moment of joy shared in his memory.

The family will receive guests at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 immediately followed by a ceremony to celebrate Cesar's life. Inurnment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Cesar's memory to: Allentown Outpatient VA Clinic or St. Luke's Hospice.
