Domenick J. Billera

October 15, 1946 — April 21, 2006

Domenick J. Billera, 59, of Lower Saucon Township died on Friday April 21, 2006 in his home, Quadrifoglio, with his wife by his side. He faced acute leukemia and a stem cell bone marrow transplant with great strength and courage.

Domenick was born in New Jersey and raised in North Brunswick. He was the only child of and was predeceased by his parents , Mary Alessi and Joseph Billera.

Domenick was a 1968 graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in electrical engineering. In his 35 year career with the N.J. Department of Transportation, Domenick's acoustical engineering skills enabled him to specialize in the design of noise barriers for the reduction of highway noise. He retired in 2004. For many of his professional years Domenick was a member of and chaired the Noise Committee of the National Transportation Research Board.

Domenick was a lifelong car enthusiast. He was an amateur and professional open-wheel racer from the late 60's to the early 80's. For the past 10 years Domenick raced in Vintage open-wheel racing , where he was both a highly skilled driver and mechanic. His hobby extended to his craft of restoring Vintage open-wheel race cars. In 1997, 1998, and 2000 Domenick was the overall champion of the Formula 70 series, Formula SuperVee. He was regarded among Vintage racers as the national expert on Formula SuperVee.

Survivors: Domenick was a loving and devoted father and husband. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Elonda Billera, a Fine Arts student at Claremont Graduate University in CA. He will also be dearly missed by his wife, Anne Marie Crown, formerly of Wescosville, and her children, Carolyn Crown of Bethesda, Md., and Christopher Crown of Whitehall.
