Edward M. Salgado, MD, 79, of Bethlehem passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 3, 2021. Born in Kearny, NJ, he was the only child of the late Angelina Pecora and Manuel Salgado.
Ed married his college sweetheart, Carol Hagenbuch Salgado, in August of 1965 while he was completing school at Jefferson Medical College. After completing his residency, he was recruited by St. Lukes Hospital to be their first plastic surgeon. Over the course of the next 40 years, he touched many lives through his practice, and served his colleagues and the community as president of the Medical Staff, head of plastic surgery, and as a member of the board of trustees. He was known for his compassion and his ability to genuinely listen, and was sought out by many for his experience and wisdom.
An avid traveler and lover of the arts, in 2018 Carol & Ed visited Antarctica, thus accomplishing their quest to visit all seven continents. Their extensive travels to the far reaches of the world brought much joy and many happy memories with family and friends. Some of their favorite destinations included Morocco, Thailand, China, South Africa, Cambodia, Myanmar, Cuba, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and almost every country in Europe. Eds particular love of Italy brought them to support Save Venice for many years.
Ed was involved in many local organizations, and was a member of Saucon Valley Country Club. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, gardening, and cooking. His love of horticulture led him to become a Master Gardener and he enjoyed designing gardens, creating his own masterpiece in his yard at home. His Sunday “chefs choice” suppers brought together many wonderful friends over the years. He loved opera, and traveled to New York City with Carol each Saturday during opera season to attend performances and to dine in his favorite restaurants.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Carol Salgado; son, Jason Salgado and his wife, Susan; daughter, Christine Salgado and her husband, Paul Cyr, and his beloved grandchildren, Grace Salgado and Alex and Cate Cyr.
