Emery John Haller, Jr. 82, of Bethlehem, died on January 18, 2019. He was born on July 5, 1936 in Bethlehem; son of the late Emery J. Haller, Sr. and the late Lottie F. (Potocki) Berger.
He was a Bethlehem High School graduate, a District 11 champion in the 220 yard dash and anchor on the 440 and 880 District 11 championship relay teams. Emery was a star running back on the football team, earning a football scholarship to the University of Georgia. Emery proudly served in the US Army as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division.
He worked as a police officer for 25 years in the City of Bethlehem, retiring as an investigator. Emery was a member of the F.O.P. and served as past president of the Bethlehem Police Club. He was a realtor from 1966 to 1991 with Manor Realty Co. Emery was a very active member of Elks Lodge #191 and served as Past Exalted Ruler. Emery was Clubmen of the year in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Woodring) Haller; was a devoted father to Stephanie Haller; Kimberley Haller and Melanie Haller; grandfather of Jared and Cody Saylor; and his first wife, Erma Haller Rehrig.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Another visitation will be held on Thursday from 9-10 a.m. with a service to follow in the funeral home. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fraternal Order of Police Star Lodge #20, P.O. Box 1387 Bethlehem, PA 18016-1387.
