Francis H. Tumpey, Jr., 84, of Bethlehem, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospice House.
Born on September 9, 1940, in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Francis H. Tumpey, Sr. and Alma (Mast).
Francis graduated from Liberty High School and went on to serve in the Army National Guard for six years. After being honorably discharged, Francis went on to work for the Bethlehem Steel for 25 years and finished his working career at St. Luke's, where he drove shuttle and was known as "Polka Fran" to all of his colleagues. Fran was a member of the United Steel Workers of America, St. Bernard's Home of the Good Samaritans, and he was also a 4th degree honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus-Bethlehem. Fran enjoyed taking long drives, going to the casino, watching any of the Philadelphia sports teams, volunteering on the sidelines at Lehigh football games and also volunteering at the Eagle's football camp.
Above all, he will be remembered for his kindness and his willingness to do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat.
Francis will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Marcia Samantha Weigle and her husband, Douglas and Paula Anne Heffner and her husband, John; brother, James W. Tumpey and his wife, Peggy Ann; five grandchildren, Owen Z. Weigle, Luke Z. Weigle, Jack T. Heffner, Mark F. Heffner, and Brad N. Heffner; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Francis is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Agnes K. Tumpey; and his brother, Richard Tumpey.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 8-9:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, 617 Pierce St. Bethlehem, PA 18015. Burial will conclude services at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Hospice House, 2455 Black River Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18015.
