George F. Yasso

George F Yasso 80, of Fountain Hill, passed away October 5, 2006 in the Blough Health Care Services facility in Bethlehem. George was the son of the late George H. and Mary W. Connors Yasso. He was the husband of Rose Marie Keating Yasso; they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past July. George was a General Foreman in the maintenance department of the Cindering Plant and Blast Furnace divisions of the Bethlehem Steel Corp. He retired in 1985 after 42 years of service. George was a lifelong member of Saint Ursula?s Church in Fountain Hill and served as President of the Holy Name Society. In addition, he served as President of the Golden Hiller Seniors organization for many years. In 1939 he was the City of Bethlehem Soapbox Derby champion and represented Pennsylvania at the national competition in Akron, OH where he finished as the national runner up. He proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Navy aboard the USS Oklahoma City. An avid sportsman all his life, he was President of the Bethlehem Steel Club and the Steel Club golf committee.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, George is survived by daughters Ann Marie Crown of Hellertown, Marianne Mimi Freed wife of James of Emmaus, sons Gerry and his wife Cinda, Bart and his wife Laura, James Spud and his wife Amy all of Bethlehem; a sister Mary Turek of Hellertown; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. George is predeceased by his two sons Thomas and George B.

Services: 9:15 AM Monday, October 9 in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Ursula?s.

Visitation: 7:00 ? 9:00 PM Sunday, October 8. in the funeral home.

Burial: Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem
