Geraldine Patricia "Gerry" Holzinger, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, surrounded by family. Born at home in Bethlehem on May 31, 1937, Gerry was a lifelong resident of the city she cherished. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1955 and from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1958. Gerry dedicated her entire professional life to Sacred Heart Hospital, where she served with compassion and skill for more than five decades. In 1984, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Cedar Crest College, leading to her promotion to unit nurse. She was honored by Sacred Heart HealthCare System for 55 years of exemplary service-a testament to her lifelong commitment to caring for others. She retired after 57 years, concluding her remarkable career in the hospital's Eye Clinic.
Gerry's warm smile, quick wit, and generous spirit made her beloved by friends, family, and colleagues alike. She loved to travel, especially through Europe with her sisters and friends, and ventured as far as Japan to visit her youngest sister, Jean, during her husband's Navy service. Many summers included a visit to the New Jersey shore with extended family.
Family was the heart of Gerry's life. She was the anchor of her extended family-steadfast, wise, and full of love. Her home in West Bethlehem was a gathering place for nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom adored her practical advice, humor, and kindness. In her later years, she found joy in living next to her brother Jim and his wife Liza in North Bethlehem, where she continued to make new friends and share her warmth with those around her.
Gerry is survived by her sister, Jean H. Somers, and by her beloved nieces and nephews: Lori (Diehl) Williams, Jeffrey Diehl, Angela (Holzinger) Hertzog, Raphael J. Holzinger Jr., Anne (Fletcher) Gold, James R. Holzinger, Rebekah Holzinger, and Jessica Holzinger, as well as many cherished grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anna (Kovacs) Holzinger and Joseph Holzinger; her sisters Mary Ann Fletcher and Theresa Diehl; and her brothers Raphael and James J. Holzinger.
Family and friends are invited to her viewing 9:30-10:30am Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 730 West Broad Street in Bethlehem followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am.
