James White

James C. White, of Osprey, Florida, formerly of Upper Macungie Township, passed away on April 7, 2024, at the age of 89. He was the son of the late Daniel and Josephine (Collins) White. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland but was raised in the Lehigh Valley. He is survived by his longtime companion, Freda S. Frova of Allentown, PA, his three children, David White (wife Roslyn) of Fleetwood, PA, Peter White (wife Christine) of Macungie, PA, and Karen Salon (husband Jonathan) of Hingham, MA, seven grandchildren, and a sister, Barbara Clavey, of Sarasota, FL.

Jim was a graduate of Malvern Prep and Lehigh University, for which he served as Treasurer of the Class of 1956. Lehigh gave Jim the Persa Award in 1991 for his work as Reunion Chair and further honored him with the Alumni Award in 2016 for his contributions to the University. After service in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he was employed by Bethlehem Steel Co. in the Office Design and Construction Department as a Field Supervisor on the construction of the Homer Research Laboratory, which is now the Lehigh University Mountaintop Campus.

In 1963, Jim became General Manager and subsequently owner of Kuss Brothers, a landscape and tent rental company based in Allentown, PA and Binghamton, NY. He was a licensed Landscape Architect and was active in national trade associations in both the landscape and tent rental industries. A former member of the Allentown Rotary Club, Jim retired in 1995.

Jim was an instrument rated pilot who flew his own plane for business and pleasure for many years. In his early years, he was a PIAA Football Official who worked many high school games in the Lehigh Valley. Jim was an avid golfer who played many of the great courses throughout the U.S., U.K. and Europe. He was a member of Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA and Mission Valley Country Club in Laurel, FL for many years, and served on committees to plan and execute golf events for the benefit of local hospitals and other charitable causes.

The funeral ceremony will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018, with visitation at the funeral home prior to the ceremony from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The interment will be held privately.
