Jean Fiore, 90, of Lower Nazareth Township, died on January 30, 2023, with family by her side. She was born January 24, 1933, in Morristown, NJ, daughter of the late Robert John and Dorothy (Maher) Martin. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Louis G. Fiore.
Jean will be remembered for her desire to help people, her friendliness, energy, and love for her family. Her door was always open to visitors. Jean found great peace in knitting, sewing and music. She created beautiful wedding gowns for her daughters and daughters-in-law. Her hand knit sweaters, scarves and blankets were loved by many. She appreciated time in her garden and was a terrific cook. She was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and long-standing member of the church choir. Jean was also a member of the Italian Folk Music and Dance group, IPaesani.
Jean graduated from Washington New Jersey High School in 1950. She earned her Registered Nursing degree in 1953 from Jersey City Hospital School of Nursing. In 1955, Louis and Jean moved to the Lehigh Valley where Jeans love of nursing and education blossomed. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1974 from Cedar Crest College, a Masters degree in Education in 1977 from Lehigh University, and an Associate degree in Business Administration from Northampton Community College in 1982.
During that time frame, Jean dedicated her life caring for others with compassion at the Visiting Nurse Association. From 1969-1971 Jean worked as a staff nurse; from 1971-1975 she served as supervisor; from 1975-1987 she served as the Executive Director; and from 1987 until her retirement in 1995, Jean led the VNA as Chief Executive Officer. In 1973, Jean was essential in implementing child health care outpatient clinics in coordination with Dr. Ingrid Laszlo and bringing home hospice care through the VNA to the Bethlehem area in 1986.
