John Babirak, 100, of Fayetteville, NC formerly of Bethlehem,
died Friday, April 21, 2006 at Woodlands Assisted Living in Fayetteville, NC
Born December 7, 1905 in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Andras
and Suszanna ViczenaBabirak. He was the husband of the late Lillian J. MagorBabirak and his first wife Katherine Hanzlik Babirak.
John grew up in Oroszlany, Hungary, he returned to Bethlehem in 1925 and went to work for Bethlehem Steel for 44 years as a welder. John was one of the first five people to organize the union at Bethlehem Steel. He retired in 1969. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed bowling with the seniors at the Town and Country Lanes.
John was a past secretary of the organizing committee of the United Steel Worker?s Union Local 2600.
In 1999, he was presented a plaque by the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame for voting at every November election for at least fifty consecutive years.
He will be lovingly remembered by, his son, John R. Babirak & wife Louise of Fayetteville, N.C., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by, his son, Andrew S. Babirak, two brothers, Andras Babirak, Jr. and Paul Babirak and a sister, Ilona Babirak Fedrick.
Services: A funeral service will be held Friday, April 28, 2006, 12 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem. Visitation will be from 11-12 p.m. on Friday, in the funeral home.
