His years of dedicated service to community sports were recognized with his 1996 induction into the Northampton County American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as an induction into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

John also maintained an active social presence in the area, with memberships to North End Wanderers Athletic Association, the Hellertown American Legion, the Jeffs Democratic Club, as well as the West Side Republican Club.
