Joseph Stone Garland, 86, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
Born on August 7, 1939, in Pottsville, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Stone Garland and the late Norma (Callaway) Garland. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane A. (Breidenbach) Garland with whom he created wonderful memories, sister, Gail Vesay; and his granddaughter, Brittany Guris.
Joe will be remembered for his kind heart, outgoing personality, quiet nature, and wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, tinkering with projects around the house, and in his younger years, riding motorcycles. He and Diane spent many enjoyable years socializing with friends at local establishments and clubs, including the Heights Athletic Association, Grover Cleveland Democratic Club, Wanderers Athletic Association, the 540 Club, and Joe's Tavern. Joe appreciated a good joke, enjoyed harmless pranks, loved shopping, and never passed up the opportunity to enjoy a good meal. He could often be found with his favorite candy, Lifesavers, in his mouth.
He is survived by his son, Joseph G. Garland and his wife, Dawn; his daughter, Melissa Petrozino and her husband, Bob; his brother, Robert Garland and his wife, Rose; and his sister, Janet Kurtek and her husband, Steve. He is also survived by his pride and joy; his grandchildren, Joseph Garland and his significant other, Marissa; Marty Guris and wife, Carissa; Mason Garland and his significant other, Chelsea; and Bryan Castner and his wife, Krysany; and three great grandchildren, Izabella, Lillian, and Xavier, all of whom brought him great joy.
Above all, Joe cherished the time he spent with his family. His warmth, humor, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
