Joseph F. "Jody" Spirk, 77, of Allentown, passed away on March 17, 2026 with his family by his side. Born in Fountain Hill on May 25, 1948, he was the son of the late Joseph Spirk and Mary Taylor. He was the loving husband of Maryann (Milisits) Spirk.
Jody attended St. Ursula's Catholic School, Allentown Central Catholic High School, Moravian College, Kutztown University, Penn State University and the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during Vietnam as a captain in the Airborne Rangers. Jody received a silver star, 3 bronze stars, a purple heart, Air Medal Army Commendation Medal of Valor, TET Offensive medal and several others. He started his railroad career as a trackman for Lehigh Valley Railroad then joined Conrail for 30 plus years and retired as VP of engineering for Rail America. Jody was a member of the TKE Fraternity American Railroad Engineering Association, St. Ursula's Catholic Church and many social clubs. He was a golfer, avid Penn State fan and loved to travel to the islands.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years, Maryann Spirk; sons, Collin Spirk and significant other, Kristin Smith and Kyle Spirk and his wife, Krista, both of Northampton; daughter, Candie, wife of Michael Crown of Norristown; 5 grandchildren, Alex, Rachel, Grace, Amelia and Nolan and brother, Robert Spirk and his wife, Faith of Fountain Hill; niece, nephew and many cousins. Nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 9-10:45 a.m. at St. Ursula Church, 1300 Broadway, Fountain Hill, PA 18015. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in the Church. Burial with military honors will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
