Joyce Doland

Joyce J. Doland, age 92, of Bethlehem, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025. Born on October 5, 1933, in New Village, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Ciarloni) Carnali. Joyce was the loving wife of the late Donald K. Doland who passed in August of 2021. Joyce will forever be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and "Grammy".

Joyce graduated from Washington High School in 1952, where she met her husband and best friend, Donald of 66 years. They spent several happy years at Loring Air Force Base in Maine before settling in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where they raised their daughter, Cheryl. She worked several jobs in her life, with her favorite being a dental assistant. In her spare time she loved gardening and watching the Philadelphia Phillies.

More than anything, Joyce loved her family. She took great joy in being a mother and "Grammy" to her three granddaughters and one great granddaughter. Her daughter fondly remembers their afternoons shopping for flowers and sharing lunches together. Her granddaughters will treasure their memories of playdates as children, which eventually turned into weekend visits full of various adventures. Her kind and gentle spirit will be missed by her family and those who knew her.

Joyce will be dearly missed by her daughter, Dr. Cheryl Doland, and son-in-law, Dr. James Smolko; three granddaughters, Anne (Stephen), Hannah (Gary), and Sarah (Dylan); and one great-grandchild, Charlotte.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her three sisters, Lena Ricci, Valentina Carnali, and Anna Berg; and two brothers, Atillio Carnali and Claude Carnali.

Services for Joyce will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. Services have been entrusted to the Connell Funeral Home, Inc.
