Juan A. Orta, 72, of Ladson, SC formerly of Allentown, PA passed away on April 17, 2026. Born on June 20, 1953 in Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Maria (Diaz) and Raimundo Orta. He was the loving husband of Susan Orta.
Juan's Legacy and memory will be cherished by everyone who had the privilege of working with him. He retired from Lanta after 23 years of service, participated in Hogar Crea Bethlehem and graduated from their program in 1984. Participated in Spanish Radio segment Ya Es Tiempo in 1994, N.E. Rep. Intl LC -President LC 956 Allentown from 2005 to 2013 and he was elected as an Emeritus member of the ATU International Latino Caucus. DUI Instructor for Penn Dot working as a CRIN intake coordinator 1990 to 1992, Assisted with the establishment of the Puerto Rican Parade of Allentown along with Raul Feleciano and named the Grand Marshall of the parade in 2002, The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) gave him the John Werkheiser award in 2011 for his active roles in the ATU Local 956 and as an activist in our community. Created Latinos Moving Forward in 2012 where he expanded his community activism to include voting, electing our mayor and bringing inner city kids to Trexler Game Preserves. He enjoyed bowling, playing Dominoes, watching his New York Yankees baseball games, New York Giants football games and his New York Knicks basketball games.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Susan Orta, daughter preceded in death, Maria Orta-Rodriguez, daughter, Trina Orta, son, Juan Alberto Orta Jr. and stepson Jose A. Negron, ten grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren; Sister Josefina Orta-Diaz, preceded in death, sister, Lydia Fonseca, sister, Nereida Lassen, brother, Esteban Rivera, brother, Jose Domenech.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial at Nisky Hill Cemetery will conclude services.
