Lamar C. Mertz, Sr.

LaMar C. Mertz, Sr., 91, of Bethlehem passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023. Born in Weissport, PA on March 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Ruth (German) and Clinton Mertz. He was the loving husband of the late Althea (Berger) Mertz.

LaMar loved sports, especially the New York Yankees. He spent time in training camp with the Boston Braves before being drafted to honorably serve his country as a member of the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, LaMar spent many years working in the garment industry, mainly at Gro-up Frocks where he retired as the manager of the cutting department. He also spent many years as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, LaMar C. Mertz, Jr.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be held at Lehighton Cemetery.
