Lowell George Ellis, 80, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2025. Born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, he was the son of the late Francis and Agnes Ellis. He was the husband of Joann M. (Polczer) Ellis, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Lowell served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, he formed friendships with fellow Sailors from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-connections that ultimately brought him east to make Bethlehem his home after his military service.

A loving and family-oriented man, Lowell was known for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. He found joy in giving back to his community, especially through youth sports. Known affectionately as "Coach Baseball," Lowell devoted decades to coaching local teams, including the Bethlehem Bulldogs and Freedom High School Football programs. His dedication and mentorship left a lasting impact on countless young athletes, including his own sons and grandsons. In recognition of his service to the community, the Bulldog Field House was named in his honor-an enduring tribute to his commitment and influence.

Lowell worked as a truck driver for Nestlé, retiring in 2010. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and spending time with his family, who were his greatest pride and joy.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Joann; sons, Josh, and Jeff Ellis; grandsons, Nicholas, and Ryan Ellis; and many extended family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity. Lowell was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lara Shapiro-Ellis.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018, followed by a service to celebrate Lowell's life.
