Oleksandr Chernyshevych, 83, of Bethlehem Township, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Gracedale Nursing Home.
Born on April 17, 1941, in Kyiv, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Anton and Lydia (Kostetcki) Chernyshevych.
Oleksandr was born at the beginning of WWII and survived the German Occupation of the Soviet Union. He attended Kyiv Politech Institute in Ukraine, while he was in college, he found great joy playing water polo. He met the love of his life, Zinaida, in Murmansk. He worked as an engineer until he retired later in life. In his free time, he enjoyed drawing, fishing, hunting, home remodeling, reading about history, and boating. Oleksandr had a tremendous bond with his grandson, Anton. He left Ukraine for the USA with his wife the day after the Russian annexation of Crimea. He has lived with his daughter's family ever since. Something that was extremely important to Oleksandr was that he became a United States citizen on May 20, 2022 and was extremely proud of that.
He will be dearly missed by his wife and 55 years, Zinaida (Obzherina); daughter, Inna Zalutsky and her husband, Konstantin; two grandchildren, Anton and Tess; niece, Lena; and two nephews, Vladimir and Yuriy and their families in Ukraine.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Vladimir Chernyshevych.
