Richard Joseph Sydlowski, 83, of Bethlehem, passed away suddenly on November 17, 2025. Born on January 26, 1942, in Plymouth, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mildred (Hyde) Sydlowski.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Joan Marie (Luther) Sydlowski, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. The two met as teenagers while working at the McCorry Five & Dime, where an instant connection quickly grew into a lifetime partnership grounded in loyalty, love, and steadfast commitment.
Richard was a man who was always on the move. Whether tending to his yard, working in the garden, or taking on handyman projects, he took pride in doing things the right way-his way. Even in recent months, when he wasn't feeling his best, he pushed himself to keep going. He was proud of the life he built.
For many years, Richard owned and maintained apartment buildings used for Lehigh University student housing with a trusted business partner. He personally handled many repairs and was known for the care he showed the students who lived there. They often left him kind notes and small gifts in appreciation, a testament to the respect they had for him.
A graduate of Liberty High School, Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a longtime member of the Heights A.A., where he enjoyed the camaraderie of close friends. His daily routine included a morning trip to the YMCA, and his evenings often found him settled into the family room watching true crime shows. He also cherished his time on the golf course with his friends, especially King, Pat, Liz, Rich, and Captain.
Richard's work ethic carried throughout his life. He spent many years as a salesman for American Tobacco and later for Silver Creek, and he served the Bethlehem Area School District as a custodian for many years; always looking after the teachers and taking pride in his work.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, brother, David Sydlowski; sister-in-law, Nancy Luther; sister-in-law and husband, Helen (Luther) and Donald Hausman; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and especially his great-nieces, Riley and Thea Luther whom he cared deeply and lived just several blocks away.
