Bethlehem

Robert S. Hassay, Sr., 84, of Bethlehem, PA, died on May 17, 2026, at Kirkland Village, Bethlehem.

Bob was born in Bethlehem on October 23, 1942, to the late Louis and Mary (Kuzma) Hassay. He was the husband of Mary Swegel Fye Hassay, and they celebrated their 45th anniversary on May 1. His first wife, Kathleen Spisak Hassay, died in 1980. Bob attended Bethlehem area schools and graduated from Liberty High School in 1960. He was also a graduate of Allentown Business College where he studied accounting.

His first professional employment was with the Allentown accounting firm of Berg, Schulz, and Green, CPAs, from 1966-78, where he served as senior accountant. He next served as the assistant controller for Market Operators, from 1978-80, and was office manager for Posh Construction from 1981-82. For the rest of his professional life, Bob served as the Office Manager for Banko Beverage Company and Warren Distributing in Flanders, N.J.

Bob was a member of the former St. John's Windish Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, where he was active in his youth, and where, in adulthood, he served as financial secretary for the First Windish Sick and Beneficial Society of South Bethlehem. He was currently a member of Blessed Trinity Lutheran Church at Rosemont in Bethlehem. Bob was devoted to his Lord, his church, and his faith for all his life.

Bob enjoyed life's simple pleasures: going on trips with his wife to lakes or to the shore, playing bingo, going to movies and to sports events. Bob enjoyed NASCAR racing, and he was a lifelong fan of Lehigh University sports and was a proud 'South Side Booster'. He was also a devoted fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles and the Phillies.

Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, his older brother Louis, and his first wife, Kathy. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his son, Robert Jr. and wife, Linda, his daughter, Laurie, of Boston, and by Mary's daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Petrie, and their daughters and grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Anna Marie Hassay, his cousin, Carol Henn, and by his niece, Colleen Rekai (Mark), and nephews Louis Hassay, Jr. (Angela), and Andrew Hassay (Sue) and their children and grandchildren.
