Virginia M. Harrison

Virginia M. Harrison “Ginny” was born on September 17, 1937, to the Late Andrew Thompson and Marcelle Campbell Thompson in Allentown, PA and was raised by the Late Norman & Maggie Auker in Lancaster, PA. She peacefully entered her rest at home on November 20, 2022. She married Matthew L. Harrison Sr on February 14, 1961, in Bethlehem, PA. Virginia attended a Mennonite school for her early education and graduated from the Allentown School of Nursing as an LPN in 1959. She joined the Mennonite Church at an early age and served as a Sunday School Teacher and Pianist. After her marriage she joined the St Paul Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Trustee, Nurse and on the Transportation dept and Morning prayer group for many years. She also served her community for many years on the board at CACLV, with the Community 9 Ambulance and on the BHA resident committee. She was a member of multiple CB clubs where he was known as “Sloe Gin”. Ginny worked at St Lukes Hospital, Cedarbrook Nursing Home as a private duty nurse for many years until her retirement. Ginny cared for the members of her family and community as God had guided her to throughout her life leaving a legacy for her family to continue on.

Virginia leaves to mourn her loving family her children Matthew Jr (Cathy), Jeffrey (Carmen), Mark (Cheryl), Nathaniel (Tamiko), Melissa Oliver (Dean), Pamela Yanochko, Angela Stovall, and Kristen Torres, 23 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Her loving sisters Marvel Richardson (John) and Miriam Butterfield of Bethlehem, PA; Her sister-in-law Mother Barbara Harrison of Brodnax, VA. Virginia was predeceased by her Husband Deacon Matthew L Harrison Sr along with her sisters, Shirley Freeman, Margaret Getter, Jacqueline Bolyard, Delores Thompson; her brother Andree Thompson, her beloved mother in law Savilla Harrison and Father in law Nathaniel Harrison, her sisters in law Virnell Hart, Minnie Magdalene Walker, Josie Lee Sharp, Frances Lofton, Ida Baskerville and Boffie Washington; her brothers in law, Nathaniel Harrison, Jr. and Thomas Jimmy Harrison ; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 925 E. Goepp St., Bethlehem PA from 9-10 a.m. with service to immediately follow. Interment will be held at Cedar Hill Memorial Park.
