Wally S. Phillipeck, 96, of Bethlehem, passed away at his home on June 29, 2026.
Born on January 3, 1930, in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Tatar) Phillipeck. He was the devoted husband of the late Rose C. (Carnish) Phillipeck, with whom he shared an extraordinary 69 years of marriage.
Wally was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend whose hardworking nature, quick wit, and playful sense of humor brought joy to those around him. A true jokester, he enjoyed making others smile and was always happiest when spending time with family and friends.
Following his graduation from Palmerton High School, Wally proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an aircraft marshaller and airplane and engine mechanic during the Korean War. During his military service, he and several fellow servicemen even built an airplane together, an accomplishment he was especially proud of. Wally was also a member of the Hellertown American Legion.
After returning home, Wally enjoyed various careers in the steel industry. He began working at Bethlehem Steel for a time, on the railroad, and later worked as a grinder with Bethlehem Fabricators. During his career, he was part of a team that supplied and delivered the structural steel beams used in the construction of the Twin Towers in New York City, a contribution he remembered with great pride.
Wally had a gift for working with his hands. He loved repairing automobiles, performing mechanical and auto body work, tending to his garden, and tackling projects around the house. As a proud Polak, he loved watching and dancing to his Polkas. He was also an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies, faithfully following his favorite teams through the years.
Dedicated to his community, Wally volunteered as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, helping guide and mentor young people. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, now known as Incarnation of Our Lord Parish.
He was predeceased by his four brothers and four sisters. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Cathleen Borso; his son, Mark Phillipeck and his wife Lisa; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, along with extended family and many friends who will miss his humor, kindness, and loving presence.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018.
