William C. Benkovic, 82, of Bethlehem, died on August 24, 2025, at Birches of the Lehigh Valley in Palmer Township, after suffering from dementia for several years.

Born on August 18, 1943, in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Violet (Zotter) Benkovic. Bill was a graduate of Central Catholic High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. His lifelong desire to live a healthy lifestyle was fueled while taking up boxing while serving in the Marines.

Following his military career, Bill became an ironworker and longtime member of the International Association of Ironworkers Local Union 36. Known for his strong work ethic, he was never one to sit still and was always working on something.

Health and routine were central to Bill's life. He faithfully woke up before dawn, often working out at 3:30 a.m., where he became affectionately known as the "mayor of the gym." He spent countless hours exercising at local gyms, walking, and he especially enjoyed taking his grand dogs for laps around town. He was a man who was devoted to taking care of himself. He also enjoyed talking with friends and keeping a steady daily schedule.

Bill is survived by his wife, Donna Benkovic; daughters, Jodi Evans and husband, Eric, and Kristin Picht and husband, Ken; as well as his grandchildren, Adam Evans, Kyle Picht, and Andy Evans.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Susan Kent, and Paulette Hettenbach.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home. A private ceremony with military honors will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Animal Health and Welfare, 1165 Island Park Rd., Easton, PA 18042
