William S. Makuvek, Jr., 75, of Bethlehem, passed away on August 21, 2025. He was born on July 2, 1950, the son of the late William S. Makuvek, Sr. and Arlene R. (Kilpatrick) Makuvek.
Known to his family as "Doodle" and to his motorcycle friends as "Lizard" or simply "Liz," he lived a full and vibrant life. Lizard enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and playing darts, and was an active member of the Independent Citizens Club and the Roosevelt Democratic Association.
A proud veteran, William honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he excelled as an expert marksman. He remained dedicated to his fellow servicemen and women through his memberships with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Doodle attended Liberty High School for three years before becoming part of the first graduating class of Freedom High School. Earlier he worked at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a crane operator, later Just Born Candies, and prior to retirement, he worked for Ungerer & Co.
For the past 32 years, Liz shared his life with his devoted partner, Rosemary "Bunsie" Kemper Kossifos, with whom he built countless memories. He will also be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Jacqueline Arthur and husband, Dean; grandson, Jon-Michael Holland and wife, Hilary; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, and Millie; and sisters, JoAnn Johnston, and Debbie Makuvek.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen Makuvek and James Saddler.
William will be remembered as a strong man with a kind heart who valued family, friendship, and service.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. Interment with military honors will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William's memory to The Center for Animal Health and Welfare, 1165 Island Park Rd., Easton, PA 18042.
