Susan Jane Horwath

Susan Jane Horwath, 79, of Bethlehem, went to eternal rest on Monday, April 5, 2021. She was born February 17, 1942 in Allentown; daughter of the late John J. and Mary V. (Hudak) Peters. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 56 years, Wendell Horwath, Jr. Susan was proud of her Slovak heritage and growing up with her large, extended family on the southside of Bethlehem. She had some of her favorite memories from that time. She was a 1959 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School and a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and later Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She will be lovingly remembered as a doting grandmother. She enjoyed the beach, both as a child and later with her children and grandchildren. Susan worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. in the Billing Division, SureFit, and later B. Braun Medical Inc. in the Payroll Dept. Susan was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols, The Heights A.A., Silver Sneakers, Red Hat Society, and volunteered at the Boutique at the Rink. Susan was most proud of her family, and will be dearly missed by her husband, Wendell; daughters, Michele Schoenen and husband, Richard; Kirsten Horwath and husband, Edgar Haldeman; son, Michael Horwath and wife, Krista; her sister, Joanne Knies and husband, Paul; as well as her grandchildren, Paige, Jessica (Ernie Steigler), Nicole, Rowan, Quinn, Spencer, and Tanner; great granddaughter, Shae; and nephew, Eric. Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 9-10:45 a.m. at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, 617 Pierce St. Bethlehem, PA 18015 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Masks and social distancing will be required upon entry into the church. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
