Helen Hope Richardson died suddenly at her home in Yardley, PA on Monday, September 7, 2020. Born in Wilmington, DE on February 29, 1956 to Caroline Willis Richardson and Wallace James Richardson, Helen was raised in Bethlehem, PA, where she attended Moravian Academy. She graduated from Lehigh University in 1977, where, as a gifted student and athlete, she co-founded the Women's Softball Team, serving as Co-Captain. Helen was also Co-Editor of the Lehigh University yearbook, Epitome, and a member of ODK, an honorary leadership organization. Having been a journalism major at Lehigh, she first worked as a reporter for The Easton Express, Easton, PA, and then in the Sports Information Department at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA, where she also coached women's softball. Helen enrolled in Temple University School of Law, where she was awarded a Doctorate of Laws Degree in 1985. She was engaged primarily in corporate law positions, most recently as Senior Counsel, Legal Division, Canon Solutions America, Inc. She was a dedicated volunteer to many organizations. For close to two decades she served as a volunteer attorney for countless musicians, artists, and writers in contract and intellectual property matters through the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (PVLA). Helen was also a gifted guitarist, performer and backstage manager. In addition, she served at numerous US Golf Association tournaments and Major League Baseball All Star fan fest events. Those who think of Helen will remember her for her love, loyalty, keen intellect, integrity, humor, industry, unflagging optimism, superb athleticism and courage in the face of many challenges. While we mourn Helen’s loss, we celebrate her life. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Caroline R. (Poppy) Mead. Helen is survived by another sister, Ann R. Hagmann, Esq. (Keating), of Cos Cob, CT, her nieces Caroline R. Hagmann of Stamford, CT, and Elizabeth K. O’Donnell, MD (Christoph) of Concord, MA, her nephew Peter R. Mead (Juliana) of New York, NY, two grand-nieces and a grand-nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Bethlehem, PA on Monday, September 14 at 11am. Friends may call at the Church from 10-11am. (Masks are required inside the church.) Interment will follow the Mass at Holy Savior Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to Lehigh University, Department of Athletics, women’s softball program.
